COMPAS is an international network of 22 organisations in 10 different countries in South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. Its main goal is the enhancement of endogenous development, which means focussing on the mobilisation of development from within, based on the values and dynamics of the people living in a particular area and on the resources available in that area. COMPAS supports local organisations working to enhance biological and cultural diversity and sustainable management of natural resources by building on indigenous knowledge systems and local leadership. The activities of the COMPAS partners mainly consist of action-based participatory research in the domains of agriculture, use of natural resources, and health. CDE is related to the COMPAS initiative through a backstopping mandate to support the creation of a COMPAS University Consortium and the elaboration of approaches and tools for training in the field of endogenous development. CDE focusses on supporting COMPAS partners in Latin America. Activities are co-financed by the Directorate General of International Cooperation (DGIS) and CDE. > See the COMPAS Website for further information. ![]() |
