Overall goal
The SLM Programme aims to support Eritrea in its efforts towards sustainable land management, improved food security, and improved rural livelihoods. Activities are grouped in three programme lines:

- Research: Millet breeding; tissue culture development; soil and water
  conservation and watershed management;
- Education: University education through scholarships for specific
  thematic fields such as GIS, remote sensing (RS), sustainable
  livelihoods, and resource management;
- Outreach: Local development in test areas; spatial
  database development.

Approach
SLM Eritrea works together with a small number of partners in Eritrea including academia, government authorities, and NGOs. The programme also maintains strategic and project-based alliances with the international donor community active in Eritrea.

Basic working principles
SLM Eritrea combines delivery orientation with process orientation, and research with education and outreach. Innovation, pioneering, thematic and geographic concentration, and the search for synergies with other initiatives and programmes are basic working principles.
