MRD: peer-reviewed, online and open access journal

Mountain Research and Development  (MRD) is now fully peer-reviewed and open access. It reaches out to an audience beyond the mountain community and is listed in the ISI Web of Knowledge.

MRD is the leading development-oriented international journal specifically devoted to the world’s mountains. It was published from 1981 to 2008 by the International Mountain Society (IMS) and the United Nations University (UNU). It is now published solely by the IMS. Since 2000, CDE has been responsible for managing and editing MRD in a new format. MRD contains well-researched, peer-reviewed scientific and development-oriented articles by authors from around the world. Its long-established Research section is now complemented by a peer-reviewed Development section. The 'new' MRD links people concerned with mountain development and research. It alerts the international community to the value of conducting sound inter- and transdisciplinary research and sharing information about mountain environments. It thus plays a direct role in fulfilling the objectives of Chapter 13 of Agenda 21.

MRD collaborates with Mountain Forum and the Mountain Partnership to enhance communication about mountain issues. MRD receives significant funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE).
