The geospatial datasets and maps prepared for downloading are a joint product of Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), the UN and different governmental organisations. The base data for these outputs were supplied by UN projects (i.e. OCHA information gateway, UNICEF waterpoint project, UNJLC road infrastructure project, FAO AfriCover project, etc.) and by geoportals from ESA (GlobeCover), NASA (SRTM, NDVI, EVI), NGA (mountain tops, geographic places), DEPHA (administratve borders), etc. as well as many OpenGIS sources.

The most important levels of information, however, were supplied by Eastview Cartographics (rivers and contours in the flat south) and by remote sensing data providers (i.e. EnvisatMERIS and TerraMODIS, TerraASTER and Landsat ETM+).

The data and map models, as well as algorithms and programmes for the drainage network, spotheights, contour lines, settlements, land cover, and medial transformation into map series, field maps and the Internet portal were all developed at CDE.
