CDE Annual Report 2016
Spotlight on Engagend and Transformative Science
In 2016, the first steps were taken worldwide to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Successful achievement of the global sustainability agenda requires cooperation between governments and non-state actors from civil society, science, and the business community. Science plays a key role in this process: it must provide knowledge that acts as a compass for the design of transformation processes leading to sustainable development. CDE’s Strategy 2016–2021 reflects the new demands being placed on science. In the Annual Report 2016, we show how we are generating the types of knowledge needed for sustainable development, based on four examples in the areas of energy use, land governance, and land use.
