The Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) was commissioned by the member states of the United Nations as an instrument for the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development to follow up on progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The next report is slated for release in December 2019. An independent group of 15 scientists co-chaired by Prof. Peter Messerli, Director of CDE, and Ms. Endah Murniningtyas, former Deputy Minister for Natural Resources in Indonesia, is currently drafting the report. It will provide guidance on the state of global sustainable development and transformative pathways.
Towards policy coherence
The report will also help address implementation of the 2030 Agenda by highlighting emerging trends and by facilitating science–policy engagement at the global level. Transformative pathways to achieve the 2030 Agenda will be a central issue addressed by the report, along with interactions between the different Sustainable Development Goals and ways to increase policy coherence.
CDE’s role
The GSDR team at CDE, composed of three scientists, has the following tasks:
- Production of scientific knowledge on sustainable development as framed by the 2030 Agenda
- Coordination of the drafting process and liaison with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs
- Organizational support for conferences and meetings
