Besides its own research and teaching, CDE carries out research and implementation mandates for public and private clients, involving knowledge transfer, policy advice, and provision of knowledge-based support. These activities typically focus on innovation and seek to enable synergies with research and teaching. For research to foster sustainability, it is important to develop questions and possible solutions in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Research and implementation mandates make this possible as does linking issues at the global, national, and local levels. Establishing links is increasingly important in sustainability research because of globalization and deepening transnational relationships. Our services encompass consulting, trainings, thematic synthesis reports as well as development of geographic information products and knowledge platforms for planners and decision-makers.
