On 21 October 2013, the Swiss Network for Transdisciplinary Research presented the “swiss-academies award for transdisciplinary research”. The award carries cash prizes in several categories worth a total of 75,000 Swiss francs. The prize for a “life-time achievement” was awarded to Professors Hans Hurni and Urs Wiesmann of CDE, who led the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research North-South and guided it towards inter- and transdisciplinarity in exemplary fashion. While doing so, they also contributed substantially to the debate about the opportunities and constraints of transdisciplinary research.
