Zambia is one of the world’s biggest copper producers, yet remains among the poorest countries in the world. How is this possible? The documentary “Stealing Africa” shows how tax policies enable mining companies to keep most of the profits. It focuses on the case of the Mopani copper mines in Zambia, owned by Glencore, based in Switzerland. It examines the consequences of extractive-industry tax policy and transfer pricing for development in sub-Saharan Africa. CDE’s Stephan Rist will join other panelists from the media, academia, and public administration to discuss (in German) the film following a screening:
