Mobility

Interested in a change of perspective?

An exchange semester offers you the opportunity to gain valuable international experiences, improve your language skills, and immerse yourself in a new culture.

Students enrolled in the Master’s in Sustainability Transformations at the University of Bern have the option to spend part of their studies abroad through an exchange programme.

Outgoing Students

All information about exchange possibilities, including the online portal of existing exchange agreements can be found at the International Office of the University of Bern.

Note: Currently the 4th semester (spring term) is best suited for an exchange. Please be aware that an exchange semester may extend the duration of your studies by at least one semester.

In Switzerland

You can study for one or two semesters at another Swiss university while remaining enrolled at the University of Bern. More information here.

In Europe – SEMP (Erasmus)

The Swiss-European Mobility Program (SEMP) facilitates student exchanges within Europe. To apply, your chosen host university must have a SEMP agreement with our study programme.

The Master in Sustainability Transformations currently has SEMP agreements with the following European universities and programmes:

Application deadlines for the following autumn and/or spring semester:

  • from 15 November to 1 March: Regular deadline
  • from 15 May to 31 August: deadline for remaining places* for the spring semester only

Beyond Europe

The University of Bern has exchange agreements with a number of universities around the world. A semester abroad can also be organized on students’ own initiative.

Short term mobility

Students who would like to gain international experience but can’t go abroad for a full semester now have the opportunity to apply for ENLIGHT Joint Courses.

The ENLIGHT Joint Courses are jointly developed by at least two to three ENLIGHT partner universities and offered to students from the member universities. They look at global challenges, are usually interdisciplinary in their outlook and generally apply the principles of challenge-based education. Some courses are offered entirely online. However, most ENLIGHT Joint Courses adopt the blended mobility format. This means that the courses take place primarily online but include a short on-site phase of one to two weeks. In contrast to regular semester mobility, students who take part in ENLIGHT Joint Courses do not spend an entire semester abroad.

On the ENLIGHT Joint Courses website you will find a list of available courses and their application requirements. Depending on the course format, different application requirements apply. Please refer to the Guidelines for Participation in Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) and the UniBE International website for information on the application process.

Application period

  • For courses that take place in fall/winter: March 1 to April 15
  • For courses that take place in spring/summer: October 1 to November 15

We will inform our students which ENLIGHT courses can be accredited to the study programme.
