Available here for download is CDE’s first annual report since becoming an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Bern. It outlines CDE’s new strategy, including six thematic clusters intended to guide activities in the coming years. One of these clusters – “Innovations in sustainable development” – builds the core of the current report. Four examples of innovation from CDE’s research, outreach, and policy activities are presented. The examples show that innovations are not, as often conceived, purely technical solutions, but must be adapted to local circumstances, where they typically address social, institutional, and economic aspects.
